The 8th Grade Graduation Prayer Service for the class of 2019 took place on Friday, June 7 in the SJS gymnasium. Mother Elaine began the ceremony by thanking God for the many blessing that He has bestowed on the class of 2019 and asking Him to continue to bless them as they move onto high school. She proceeded to light the candle, representative of the Light of Christ, the light that they received at Baptism.
The 7th Grade continued the prayer service with readings and psalms. Fr. Martin was welcomed to say the Gospel. He continued afterwards to refer to Matthew’s Gospel where we are the “salt of the earth”. We take on the qualities of salt – healing, preserving, catalysts for other substances to be more effective – keeping the light of Christ ignited in our lives. The St. John School body then sang “They Know We are Christians”. The 7th Grade followed with Prayers of the Faithful – the prayers included prayers of thanksgiving for friendships at SJS and for the acts of kindness from parents, our Pastor, Our Principal, teachers and support staff this past year. A 7th Grader then recited the Graduation Litany to our graduates.
Mrs. Graham called on each of the graduates to come up to the stage and Mother Elaine presented each a gift. After Fr. Martin blessed all present with Holy Water, Mother Elaine concluded with a closing prayer. The graduates processed out to the closing song, Lead Me Lord. This evening, we celebrate their graduation with Holy Mass and the presentation of their diplomas. Good luck to the SJS Class of 2019!
